When you join SoundSkool, you’re not just entering a college — you’re stepping into a community built from lived experience and a deep love of music.
Simon, SoundSkool’s founder and CEO, grew up on a council estate in North West London. Like many young people, he found his escape, identity, and future through music. He began MCing at just 14, performing at private events and pirate radio stations, and by 15 was already DJing. Influenced by jungle and garage, Simon made waves on the UK music scene — and in 1998, his track ‘Lost In Vegas’ became a garage anthem, still played and celebrated as a classic today.
Simon founded SoundSkool in 2008 with a vision: to create the kind of music college he wished had existed when he was younger — a place where talent is nurtured, creativity is championed, and every student is seen and supported. He knows first-hand how hard it can be when no one believes in your path, especially when that path is music.
Over the years, alongside Connie (SoundSkool’s long-standing Director), Simon built a family — not just a college. He believes SoundSkool should be a space where you’re known by name, encouraged to collaborate, and supported to chase your dreams — whatever your style, background or journey.
At the heart of everything Simon does is a commitment to student wellbeing and personal growth. SoundSkool doesn’t just help young people become better musicians — it helps them become more confident, resilient and empowered individuals. Every student matters here. Every story matters.
Simon still spends his days on the ground, speaking with students and families, because for him, SoundSkool has always been personal. As he often says: “What CEO cares this much about each student?” The answer is simple — one who’s walked the same path.
